Case Study 1:

A 250-bed acute care hospital in rural Tennessee faced a 400% increase in emergency room boarding hours in Q1 of 2023 due to staffing shortages and bed closures. The prolonged wait times strained hospital resources and impacted patient care.

Phoenix Healthcare Innovation partnered with the hospital to develop targeted staffing strategies, optimize bed management processes, and implement workflow improvements to reduce patient wait times. Through data-driven analysis and operational enhancements, the hospital successfully improved patient throughput, minimized bottlenecks, and enhanced overall efficiency.

Case Study 2:

A 150-bed hospital in the Midwest struggled to meet the growing demand for inpatient beds, consistently operating at 90% capacity. While their hospital medicine group was well-staffed, nursing shortages created a bottleneck, limiting patient throughput and delaying admissions.

To address this challenge, Phoenix Healthcare Innovation worked with the hospital to develop an alternative early discharge model, allowing stable patients to transition home sooner with appropriate support. By refining care coordination, discharge planning, and outpatient follow-up processes, the hospital improved bed availability, reduced length of stay, and maintained high-quality patient outcomes.

Case Study 3:

A 200-bed hospital in Texas faced growing patient throughput challenges, with significant delays in transitioning patients to post-acute care. Through a Voice of Customer analysis, the hospital identified payer denials as a primary barrier, leading to extended length of stay (LOS) for patients needing post-acute care (9.2 days) compared to those discharged home (6.1 days). A substantial portion of these delays were classified as avoidable days, primarily due to first-pass denials from local payers.

Phoenix Healthcare Innovation partnered with the hospital to implement proactive denial prevention strategies, including enhanced documentation practices, payer engagement initiatives, and real-time case management interventions. By strengthening prior authorization workflows and discharge planning, the hospital significantly improved patient flow, reduced avoidable days, and optimized bed capacity.
